The Pattern

Toe & Foot Section

Make a magic circle (or chain 4, sl st to first chain to form a ring).

Round 1:

10 htr into the centre of the circle, join with a sl st to the first htr. (10sts)

Round 2:

Ch 1, 2 htr in each st around. Join with a sl st. (20sts)

Round 3:

Ch 1,
1 htr in next st, 2 htr in next st, rep around. Join. (30sts)

Round 4:

Ch 1,
2 htr in next st, 1 htr in next 2  sts, rep around. Join. (40sts)

If you’re making size 3 to 4, stop here.
For size 4 to 5, keep 40 sts total by skipping a few increases evenly around.
For size 6 to 7 or 8 to 9, add one more round increasing every 3rd or 4th st as needed to reach your stitch count from the chart above.

Length of the Foot

Measure the length of your foot (see chart) and continue in moss stitch (also known as linen stitch) until you reach the desired length before the heel.

Moss stitch pattern (worked in rounds):

  • Change to 3mm hook and Ch 1, 1 dc in the same stitch, ch 1, sk next st, rep around.
  • You should still have your total stitch count (e.g. 40 sts for size 4 to 5).
  • Continue until your sock reaches just before your heel (around 18 to 20 cm for size 4 to 5).

Heel Section

  1. Foundation: Dc in each st (including ch 1 spaces) across half of the sock stitches (e.g. 20 sts for size 4 to 5). Turn.
  2. Rows: Ch 1, dc across those 20 sts. Turn and repeat until the rectangle section covers the back of your heel to your ankle(approx. 6 to 8 cm).
  3. Forming the Heel: Fold the rectangle in half (right sides together). Sl st across the top edges to close the heel seam. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Leg Section

  1. Reattach yarn at the top edge of the heel. Ensure the sock is inside out (wrong side facing you)  this will give a neater seam inside.
  2. Round 1: Ch 1, 1 dc in same space, ch 1, sk next st, rep in moss stitch all the way around the top edge. Adjust your stitch count to approx. 50 sts for size 4 to 5 (a little more or less depending on your foot width).
  3. Rounds 2 to 6 (or more): Continue working in moss stitch for your desired leg height (ankle, mid, or boot length).
  4. Finish: Sl st to join, fasten off, and weave in ends. Turn the sock right side out.

Rib stitch

Ch 11, in the 2nd ch from the hook, working your way down into each ch work 1dc, sl st into the next 2 sts (the dc and the ch space)

Turn your work,
and work your way back up the chain working in the blo, 1dc counting 10 sts repeat this all the way around, then join together

Alternative ribbing

Chain 3, fptr, bptr repeat this all the way around

Optional ideas

  • Add pompoms to the foot of the sock
  • Add bows either at the back or sides of the socks
  • Use an alternative colour for the toes, heels and the ribbing
  • Use anti slip adhesive to the soles of the socks

Mindful Crafting Tip / Mini Ritual:

As you work on your project:

  • Sip a warm drink slowly.
  • Notice the rhythm of your hands.
  • Take a quiet moment to reflect on something gentle from your day.

Each stitch can be a tiny pause, a calm ritual woven into your week.
